Suggested motor for my new boat is MFA 1105/7 6:1 (£30 ish and I need 2) but I have seen a couple of alternatives which although slightly higher ratios are haf the price + free postage so I get 2 motors for the price of one smiley

      Alternatives are : MFA91D30112 / 30:1 and 918D151 / 15:1.

So what do you guys think? stick with the suggested motors or would the alternatives do the job just as well.

What is the model; how big are the props (e.g. 4-blade x 40mm diameter) and at what voltage will you be running the motors? The two ratios quoted are, at first glance, way too low for practical use with propulsion motors.

            Hi Dave,

Boat is Model Slipway Yorkshireman Tug. I had hoped to run 2 motors from one 12V battery through Action Elec P40D Mixer and P92 Power Dist combination. The spec sheet for the 1105/7 (with a ratio of 6:1) suggested that this was an ideal motor for a tug so are you saying that the other two motors I quoted are too low ratios?

              Got it in one, Paul.
BTW you'll need two speed controllers as well as a P40 mixer. Have a look at the ACTion P94 before you part with your money. It does it all in one unit. Coupled with a P92 and a P95/2 twin fuse board you'd be emulating hundreds of other installations – see the wiring diagram for Yorkshireman here **LINK**

Ya see… that's what forums are all about! Even if you ask the "wrong" question, you do eventually get the "Right" answer. Thanks for that Dave, the circuit diagram from Action is EXACTLY what I needed. Course I've now got to persuade SWMBO that I really do NEED all this new electronic gear dont know.
