I was given a model of what looks like a J class yacht going by the hull lines and would like to restore it to near scale having looked at plans of Shamrock V and rescaling as best as I can it looks like a 72” mast above deck the question I have is would a 20mm diameter alloy tube be in character or is this too big?
Thats all for now but there will be more questions later I bet , many thanks in advance John

          Hello John

          How long is the hull?

My J class Britannia has a hull length of 47″ with a parallel 3/4″ dia mast for the first 38″ then a tapered section of 15″ on top of that, 1/2″ down to a 1/4″ dia

Based on Sandy Cousins excellent design

Hi Bob the model is 62 ” long in need of a lot of tlc the original mast is wood but in a bit of a state and is not to scale as I see it going by the info on the J class boat Shamrock V as this is what I would like to have this model look like it was a Gaff rig with most of it missing I would like to get this looking like Shamrock V with cross trees etc all made of alloy ( work in avaition company ) also what size diameter would the boom be half inch or the same as the mast? Many thanks in advance John.
P.S. saw a similar model as mine in a auction site it was called the Agnes (but in better condition)

              Hello John

My boom is 9/16″ dia tapering down to 1/2″ dia and is 31 1/4″ long

My hull is 47″ long……yours is 62″ long…….so all dims on your model will be larger by 1.32

Your mast will be 1″ dia x 50″ long for the parallel section……etc

              Bob

Many thanks Bob your measurements help me no end, when my nipper about I get him to do pics of hull now and then after, also it has the old style steering gear (part of) which will be replaced with r/c as with sail winch etc looking forward to this in the winter evenings.
                John
