Hi does anyone know where I can get some plans to build a herring drifter which operated in the hight of the herring industry from the east coast?
      Thanks.

Depends on if you want a sailing drifter or either a steam or motor drifter. I assume you mean one of the steam drifters.

If you want to build a remote control one there are various options from working off plans , buying a GRP hull with plan or a kit like the Model Slipway drifter : http://www.modelslipway.com/drifter/drifter.htm

James Pottinger’s excellent plan is still available here:

lets not forget, the two different types of steam drifter hull, to throw a spanner in the works.
the typical scottish drifter [ danny boy…mountfleet models] had different stern bulwarks to the english east coast drifter [formidable type LT100] and so the choice continues.

there were also the trawler/drifters which were equipped with both trawl winch and gallows, usually starboard side, AND a steam capstain and mollgoggers for hauling the drift nets. These trawler drifters had the best of both worlds, being able to fish for both herring and white fish when each were in season, thus being able to earn all year round.
sorry to add confusion, but a drifter just isn’t a drifter…there are choices, and in a way better for the modeller to make there own individual model just that bit more interesting.

Hello, I have the plans for a Sailing Fishing Cutter that operated from the North German ports prior to the First World War. if you are interested?
If you Google Astart you will find photos of how she is today.
