Thanks for that  Paul, the only thing I did different to the Barrel back apart from planking instead of veneer is I changed the brand of yacht varnish this Rustins stuff seems to flow better thus brush marks disappear better. I’m putting her on the water this afternoon for a shakedown run before our club evening sail on sunday hopefully a video to follow

Not Forgotten Bob Just not ready yet now lets see if I can post a quick vid of the 1st proper water trial unfortunately I had a proggraming error on the tx and reverse was limited so I bumped the bank a little no damage and error sorted now its a short vid because it was so cold that was as much as Pam could handle with gloves off

Thanks Bob. And It was only a very little bump Bob the Tx is a Hi-Tech pro car 3ch and it defaults to abs mode for the reverse which basically pulses the brakes on a nitro car but if you forget to disable it on an electric model gives you a pulsed reverse and this esc simply ignores that so no reverse very embarassing. Otherwise a nice handling very stable and bouyant craft, currently its 10mm high in the water and that 10mm will need about 3lb of ballast prob just leave it where it is for the moment

Here We go folks a 10 min video of our clubs pre xmas meet at the diminutive pond we call home shot from the centre seat of the Homewood landing 24. Apologies for the loud cooling pump really stands out on the vid hardly noticeable from the bank

                        Hello Phil

That was clever and very novel!………………Pity about the pump volume though?…..Do you really need a water pump?…..I`ve never used water cooling in any of my boats?

Your big model made a good solid base for the vid camera.

I see you had a good turnout………….and no snow!

We`re still snowed in up here………………Bob

Your right there Bob it is a wonderfully stable craft. as for the water cooling your probably right as long as I don’t use full power for too long! however a lesson for next time the pump is switchable from the Tx so I’ll turn it off next time I’m filming and keep the speed down. wasn’t a bad turnout for our club but it was bitter. as for snow being in the south west we’ve been lucky so far there was however a light dusting on the untreated roads and paths when I got home just 8 miles away.

when all 4 lights are lit everything is hunky dory

when the two green lights have extinguished the bty is below 7.5V

and it is time to think about mooring. When the yellow light goes out the bty voltage is between 6.6 and 7.1V and its almost time to fetch ya waders

and if your not moored by the time the red goes out at 6.6V there’s only one possible outcome and it could involve wet feet

I think its going to be one from my native county Yorkshire. one of the whitby fishing boats probably a late design “Coble” complete with motor and prop or maybe a slightly larger “Keel boat” of course the hardest part will be authentic fishing gear. The coble at about a metre will prob be easiest much simpler tackle

as we’re getting to the end of this build I thought I’d show you how I launch / retrieve these 1m boats without kneeling down on the bank

excuse the flash flare the new wallpaper needs toning down

the rope slings ensure that the boat sits upright and the forward rake of the lifter handle while making you reach a little further keeps the boat more or  less upright as you lower it to the water and a rubber band between the rope sling and the frame keeps the rope from floating on retrieval the  height  of the handle in this case was set by what will fit in the boot of our Meriva meaning the boat can be carried from the shed to the car and transported to the pond without taking it of the sling.

well here’s hoping everyone enjoyed xmas our boxing day sail in taunton on the river tone went ok with a few boats in evidence The video camera onthe homewood suffered with the low winter sun a little and the current and bow waves of the  other boats was more in evidence but still an interesting viewpoint of the river

Well its finally snowed here in somerset always the last in the queue us here in the sunny south west!

I am slowly proceeding with some of the trimming of the homewood. Also Due to the fact that this design was inspired by the trad Chesepeake bay fishing boat and that the full size is available pretty much configured as you want it and because the designer has failed to keep me abreast of his intentions for his prototype I’ve decided to equip it much as a local might. this includes equiping it for both rod and line and longline fishing and prob with a crab pot lifting rig as all 3 styles are very popular in the bay. to that end I’ve fitted the mast, (rigging is temp. shackles and turnbuckles to follow)

I need to come up with a realistic goose neck before fitting the jib and need to find a suitable potting block (a pulley with one side open to let the pot line pass)Also I’ve started knitting the fenders

All in all I’m becoming very pleased with the overall effect.

Looks a bit too clean for a fishing boat?

The fenders are very nice and the brass strip at the front is a nice touch!
