Hi

So I was asking you guys for help in regards to starting out in RC Boats, so I decided to go with a sail boat.

Reason why I went for a sail boat is well, although it would be fun with a speed boat, i didn't feel like going around and around all the time and avoiding the ducks and swans.

I didn't want to go for a Yacht is because well although I love the look of the luxury Yachts again, just going around and around. This is what I was thinking about picking up..

Although you may ask well, that is what RC Boats do but for me I just wanted something different, something relaxing, and where I didn’t depend on the motor to do all the work and I just control the speed and direction.

So I thought I would love to drive a Sail Boat, to just relax on the bench after a hard week at work and watch the sail boat ride on the water and let the wind blow into the sails.

Yes some may say boats are boring get a RC Car or a plane but I have done RC cars and it's pretty much a SOLO thing, no real clubs and planes, I am not confident enough to fly them and I would need to join a club to learn. Also my eyesight isn't great to see them so high up in the air.

So this is what I picked up today…..

Not an expert on Sail Boats but I love it and I can't wait to take this out on the weekend

Welcome to the forum.

Good looking sail boat you got there. Once you get the hang of sailing her, you may want to think about building your own. The you get the joy of the build and the joy of the sail afterwards.

A good looking starter that should perform well in the right conditions. The small size will limit those conditions. Ponds and lakes, by their nature, are at the bottom of a hole which means that they are sheltered by their surroundings, even a quite shallow bank. A short sailplan gets hidden from light winds more easily than a taller rig. As the wind increases, a small boat gets relatively bigger waves to deal with sooner.

Looking at the pictures on the site – https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/products/hobby-engine-radio-control-nobel-rc-sailboat/ – I get the feeling that the photographer knew a lot about light and colour and composition, but little about rigging a sailboat. Hopefully the instructions will tell you the proper way to rig it so that it will work. My first RC yacht was about this size – it was good fun, but I soon realized its limitations and moved onward and upward.
