      Hi All

Iam new to this boat buiding just trying to find the best web site or book for general tips on just about every thing to do with building models.  I have started a kit and got as far as completing the hull and some of the masts but now it comes to the painting and detailed bits and bobs. realy need help in how to mask areas, how long to leave the masking tape on for etc.

Any help or advice would be very welcome

      Thanks

        Hi Colin

        Here are two excellent books:

        • The Ship Model Builder’s Assistant by Charles G. Davis, Dover Press – ISBN 0-486-25584-0(pbk.)
        • The Art of Rigging by Capt. George Biddlecombe, RN, Dover Press – ISBN 0-486-26343-6

The second book was used in the early 1900’s as a training manual at the Naval Academy

        Regards, ……….John

A couple of hints which may be of use these days: after washing out your enamel brush in turpentine, spray the bristles with CRC and put a plastic tube over the tip to protect them; to thicken model paint or to create a scale non- skid surface mix fine flour into the paint; for very fine sanding in tight places make a mini sander by cutting bristles off an electric tooth brush and glue on a piece of sandpaper, shape and grade to suit your needs.

'Building models' is a very wide subject, even if just restricted to boats. You could be interested in power boat racing, yachting, scale cabin cruisers, warships, static historic galleons……

We can provide much more detailed direction if we know what specific topic you are interested in.

"after washing out your enamel brush in turpentine, spray the bristles with CRC"

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is "CRC"?
