Hi Paul sorry the boat will hopefully improve my building skills for a future project sorry i should of made that clear.

Back to the boat: i’ve made some mesurements The engine room has to be at least 2 inches long and 31/2 wide. the beds are 1 inch ide and 2 inches long.

The beds are bunks of 3 and there are 3 sets two next to each other and the third bunk is going across them at the front of the boat so it needs to be at least 21/2 inches wide to fit the bunks in.

and the stowage compartment can be as long as it likes as i’m not sure how big it’s going to be so it’s up to you i was thinking 13 inches as the total lengh of the boat.

      Nick.

        Hi Nick

I shall start looking for such a craft but it might take a couple of days as your requirements for the accommodation are quite specific.

Its nice to see a young chap using imperial measurements.

            Hi Nick

Scratch building a waterline model boat is not to difficult especially if you are used to building models as you will be used to following a set of plans and won’t be so inclined to stick your fingers together.

In fact I bet even Vinnie could do it.

The first job is to find a suitable model or plan and then we can take it from there.

Hi Paul this boat is perfect and it gives me plenty of space to add a 43mm anti air gun and some mines. It would also be perfect as it’s got a big front end (beds) stowage compartment and by the looks of it a big engine room!

                      Hi Nick

                      Where did you find it?

You need to know what ship it is and then look for plans (blueprints) if none available then some photos of the ship i.e. full side view, full rear and top views (if poss) so that measurements can be taken.

It is very similar to a Billings Kit called the Nordkap

                      Paul

                                            Hi Nick

At the length of model that you propose to build I would suggest card, plastic card or balsa, all are easy to work with and readily available (and fairly undemanding on the pocket)

Any more thoughts on the patrol boat plans?

                                                Hello Nick

The joy of scratch building is not having pre-made parts but creating the items that you need.

In the case of torpedoes try using wooden dowel, rounding off one end and reducing the other to make the correct shape and then adding some balsa fins with a small prop….."hey presto" an instant torpedo

So I will leave it to you to think of something that is just the right shape to make sea mines out of (but a hint would be that some deodorant and shampoo containers have great tops)

                                                Paul
