Hello.
Just a couple of thoughts on using a lawn mower engine.
Most air cooled stationary engines are over finned, that is the cooling fin area is much more than they need. Most lawn mowers spend most of there lives with the cooling fins clogged with grass clippings, but never seem to over heat. If the cooling shroud is left on, and the air intake on any engine cover on the boat is a little larger than the air intake on the engine, and the air exit is a little larger than the intake, there shouldn't be a problem. This is how I have set up my boat. I shall be testing her in the next week or two, so If I'm wrong I'll let you know, and lick the egg off my face! Oh yes, I'm assuming a two stroke engine, If you try to run a vertical shaft 4 stroke horizontal, then the oil pump wont be imersed in the sump oil on all most all lawn mower engines
All the best
