Helloto all in this forum. This is my first boat adventure. I have spent 43 years designing and modelling R/C aircraft and engines, and have have decided to spread my wings to model ships.<Grin>.

I am kicking off with the HMS Badger kit from CalderCraft. I would like to know if anyone can recommend a book on painting and weathering square rigged static ships?

Also I would like to rig up some lights in the quarters and have small speaker playing some sound in the form of mp3 format.Is there such a device designed for models ship other than a small mp3 player as in USB key size?

 Hey Greg

   welcome to the site I bet you know more about putting together kits than me with all that experience in air craft kits so it may be you helping me. I like the idea of an mp3 usb thing as the sound source its food for thought.  I myself havent got much expertise to offer but willing to give advise if i can.

Wellcome again hope you find model boating building a  fulfilling hobby and look forwrd to helping you in anyway i can.

Hi Greg, I have just read your mail of the 16/4/08 and may be i can be of help with your lighting on your model. I have built the Revell model of the Queen Mary 2 in 1/400 scale and have illuminated it with approx 100 LED’s of various colours. These LED’s come in a variety of sizes and colours and work on voltages from 1 volt to the ones i use which are powered by 12 volts with resistors fitted. If you wish i can supply you with diagrams on how to wire them and also of where to buy them from.If you wish to send me your E-Mail address i will forward pictures of my model of the QM2 all lit up which would give you an idea of how the LED’s look like when lit up.
