Gary.. what are your interests?? what do you fancy making. You have to fancy making something and not just choose something because its very easy or interest will wane.

A GLYNN GUEST plan would be a good start. nice and simple, easy to construct, stable, able to be “accessorised” or left as plan. A variety of styles available here. Look very nice as “stand off scale”…ie.. looks pukka at 6 feet away…of can be dolled up with extras to producea stunning museum quality model (obviously like we ALL turn out !!!)
I like to make something that takes my fancy and is unusual, but others like..whatever.
Build from a plan, get a hull and start there..or an expensive kit with all the bits included(not recommended just yet). MFA do a few powerboat/cabin cruiser type boats.. very straightforward..good performers.. all parts including running gear available (see my album for more ideas)
tools required.. let me see,,,
cutting mat (or a nice bit of hardboard) , steel ruler, 18mm snap-off blade craft knife, sandpaper/cork block, paints brushes etc. possiby electrical crimpy things and suitable pliers and/or soldering iron for the motor side of things.
optional extras..whatever you fancy,as no one will agree here as per a previous thread on workshops…
A few copies of MODEL BOATS Glynn Guest free plans/build articles… will explain all.
Plans from our sponsor..my hobby store
Its almost made.
