Love the toy-like appearance of this boat.  You seem to have achieved a kind of ambiguity found in many toys.  Are they toys or are they models? I’msure you know what I mean!  Well done Geoff!

        Hello Craig

This is a copy of a Victorian tin plate toy battleship………………..My brother made it about 10 years ago…..It is made of wood, bread and butter fashion and takes 65lb of lead to get it down to the correct waterline

It was last seen on The Ship Finder Generals stall at Blackpool

        Regards…………….Bob

              Hi Bob

Being an fool I cocked up the amount it should have read £5000 and the model was subject to very heavy bidding from Japan and USA.

              Paul

Perhaps we should get into the forgery business and make a few bob out of these gullible foreign chaps.

Fabulous, absolutely fantastic. Love it. Just the sort of look I was aiming for on my HMS Devastation (peering out behind something else on my gallery)    However I did not go quite as far as this. truly my sort of boat….wonder how it goes??? and what size it is. Ashley

                    Hello Ashley

The model was about 48" long and was very nicely made. My brother turned every stantion himself and made a jig for drilling the fine handrail holes…………and there were hundreds of `em!

The forward gun worked on the old Brocock system ( when it was legal ) and fired a barrage of pond pellets….complete with a cloud of smoke from the compressed air…………I may have an old picture of this somewhere.

Found the picture of Goliath………….it was in a family gazette I used to publish…….hence the accompanying words etc

Fabulous. I just wonder if it would have looked in  keeping with fake "lithiographed" solid handrails instead of all those seperate items, as of course an original tin toy would not have had seperate stanchions etc.     48" is a jolly good size. Mine is too small at 26 x 7, and I wished I had made it bigger for more presence on the water. I will now add another model to the list of things to make!   Ashley
