Hi guys, total noob with this boat building and taken more than I can chew, possibly!! Anyway I served on HMS Leander so thought I’d build a scale model of her. Got my 1/96 hull from Sirmar and looking to make a start. Read in a book that when constructing decks/superstructure don’t mix materials so I want to make everything with plastic but have a problem knowing what glue to use for what! Firstly deck supports, what glues styrene square to grp? Secondly I am thinking of using palight foam board for decks and superstructure but what to use to A. Glue to styrene and B. To glue it to itself? Sorry to go on but I’m really confused with the vast choice of glues, epoxy, super, plasweld, polyurethane etc.etc.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at this site from DeLuxe Materials.

          **LINK**

It lists all the various types of glues and there are charts of what to use to glue different materials together.

This site also has a wide spread of glues with descriptions, and, of course, they'd be happy to advise on any application if you contact them…

Thanks Dodgy Geezer, I have seen this site , seem good prices but I’ve emailed them without reply so perhaps I’ll try phoning.
                Thanks again

I don't think they are trading at the moment if what I have seen on another website is true.

Yes – I used them a few years ago but not recently. Sorry for posting something which is currently unusable… blush

They seem to have closed down in Runcorn last year, and moved to Bulgaria, where they are concentrating on trade customers. They left this comment last December on modelflying.co.uk:

"Five Star are still trading, UK company, UK VAT registered technicaly trading from the UK

Manufacturing 100% in Bulgaria, Supplying Direct from Bulgaria

UK unit is now as of last month empty letters diverted to here, new address will be on site soon ( as soon as i am happy that it is secure enough to publish the address )

We gave notice to landlords back in September that we were leaving but they wont return deposit due to glue fumes damaging the roof so we are arguing about it…..

At the minute we are concentrating on trade manufacturing no retail mail order is available

We will still do a few shows in the UK every year, ones we always do such as Weston Park, The Nats maybe a few other modeling ones plus the engineering and wood working ones

Soon…. ( not sure when ) mail order SHOULD become available ( only when i can make sure it is reliable)

The reason mail order is not available is…….

As a chemical manufacturer it is very diffficult to do retail as well! , anytime now…. mail order should be back available but that may be anytime from a few weeks to a few months, it will not be available until I am happly that we can give a good service and that the staff can do it with no mistakes or delays

All adhesives are still manufacatured by my own company , as they have always been, no brand/supply changes etc have happened or ever will as all manufacture is at my own factory.

                    StarLoc FiveStar Adhesives"

Which suggests that they might be taking mail orders soon – but don't hold your breath…

I believe that the Bulgaria premises were flooded, adding to their woes.
