Hello all need a answer and solution to addverts icons breaking into forum.

high litghted blue capitals when cliced show usless addverts,

and offers , am i being targeted, is there way to block this c**p..

any body help thank you Larry…

Ad blockers are available for most browsers, some have the ability to stop pop-ups appearing. Years ago I got a freebie called "NoAds" which is great at killing pop-over windows and the pernicious pop-under windows. Don't know if its still available as a freebie.

The targeted advertising is a pointless pain in the butt – I bought a camera a couple of years ago – just how many cameras to these morons think I need? Unfortunately, if you do not pay for a product, like google, you become the product. In this case, the saleable item is your information which is circulated and "matched" to advertisers who pay the likes of google.

Yes, you are being targeted, but not directly by this website. I am assuming you are referring to the personalised ads at the top of the page.

When you make a search on Google, the information is recorded against your computer address and sold on to third parties who then use it to place ads with websites which have signed up to their services. You can opt out of this and see what is happening by clicking on the 'AdChoices' icon at the lower right hand side of the advert box. You will still see adverts but they will not be personalised. Apparently this takes some time to take effect. I turned mine off over a week ago and I am still getting them.

I get them on quite a few websites and I agree it is rather disconcerting at first.

As far as adverts generally are concerned, they are needed on this website to bring in revenue which helps pay for running the Forum etc.

Sounds like your machine has a virus. You'll need to run some specialist clearance prgram and that sort of techie thing.
