      Hello

      All

I have just added my rear deck to M.S Assurance tug and I have noticed that the hull has some warpage just aft of the break from Foredeck to reardeck. Some of this will be fixed when foredeck is added but is there any way to fix some hull warpage at the top of the rear deck? I know that resin can be fixed with heat. The warp is just aft of foredeck split right in line with portholes.

      Thanks

      Dave

Model Slipway's Hints and Tips website section says that a hull may be brought back to shape by warming it with a hairdryer. Once you've done that make sure that you have the hull firmly and squarely in its stand while you add the rest of the decking (put a couple of heavy batteries in the hull to weigh it down), and leave the model in its stand while the adhesive sets fully. Once the decking is on the hull and deck form a 'tube' which can never be unwarped.

Slight warping is common on GRP hulls and isn't usually something to worry about as it is a natural result of the continuing curing process. As Dave says, fix the hull in position with the decks loosely mounted and warm it with a hairdryer – not a heat gun! It needs to be quite warm, and just about bearable to touch. I agree with Dave that it is also advisable to place heavy weights in the bottom of the hull to keep it flat and level as bowing of the bottom is often the cause of the apparent warping.
