Is it the 34" or 46" version? I have a scanned plan of the big one but you'll need AutoCAD R14 or later to make any use of it. Regret no instruction booklet is available from this source.

Pleae PM me your usual E-Mail address then I can forward the plan file. For 'original building manual' (i.e. before the die-cut kits) read 'hen's teeth' or 'rocking-horse dung'. That said, I might just have a useful contact in Australia, but please don't hold your breath.

I'm not sure that would have ever been a detailed building manual however if you would like to post some photos of the model and parts we will be able to talk you through the build.

I am……………….I wrote/drew it! However, the rest of Paul's suggestion is a good one. I've sent out feelers to Oz for a possible copy and await a reply.

                      2. Regarding building manual something jogs my memory that one did exist with kit.

                      3. parts which are confusing still have numbers on faint but readable. I will post some photos with parts and part numbers.

                      Again many tks

                        I stand corrected.

I obviously know that you penned the drawings but apart from technical notes on the drawing itself I didn't realise that you had also produced a detailed build manual.

But even if your chum in Oz has a copy I suspect that Graham might need some help upgrading the instructions after all it is difficult to find resin glue and catgut these days.

                          Cheeky!
I think I used Devcon epoxy throughout. Speeds up building no end (the alternative was Cascamite) but not recommended unless someone else is paying for the materials. Imagine the luxury of being able to request anything you need from the Ripmax catalogue and have it personally delivered by one of their reps- all free issue – as well as being able to swan into Avicraft's shop and help myself, knowing that Bunny or Jean would stick it onto Model Avionics' tab.
Ee by eck, them were 't days!

Paul – do you remember Seccotine?

You lucky bug-er getting all that kit for free.

Seccotine ( good old fish glue ) but Cascamite brings back more memories.

I was having an old boys memory trip and started looking up the Huntsman model boats and found this forum.

I always wanted one when I was younger but never got round to it.

Some things you just cannot forget

I seem to remember seeing a review about somebody trying to take this model across the channel to France

It had a good size motor (15cc I think) and I do remember seeing pictures of it actually on the sea. and how capable it was.

Now I am retired I am determined to get the model boat I always wanted and I will in time get going on my own personal huntsman .

Paul T talked about using catgut presumably to hold the panels of wood together during construction.

I used to build kayaks and canoes out of ply and used copper wire (real easy to twist together) to hold the joints twhile I fiber glassed the joints and would do the same for a model boat of this size I imagine

That worked well just snip and pull from the back after glassing.

what else would you need catgut for?

Thanks for letting me contribute to your forum

It might be the motivation I needed to make my dreams a reality.

I live in Niagara Canada now and have more lakes and rivers than any boat lover would need .

                                      Just need a boat.

                                      David

                                        Hello David

Welcome to the forum and it nice to hear from Canada.

Firstly I should apologise for my comment about catgut as it wasn't meant to be serious as it was just a dig at my old (very old) friend Dave Milbourn and his methods of construction.

Which one of the Huntsman range are you interested in and what size?

Are you looking to build from plans, build a kit, renovate an old model or buy a 'ready to go' boat?

                                          Hi Paul

I like the idea of the big one as Lake Ontario and lake Erie have quite a swell going at times

They are after all more like inland seas

I have looked at the Newer Glass and wood models but after doubling the price in pounds for Canadian Dollars the cost would be prohibitive for my first build.

Most of the old kits are in the UK and those posted on ebay will not send by post so I will probably go with the plans

I have the time, the tools and experience with boat construction so I cannot see to many issues on the main build.

of course I will have to learn about the radio control and motor issues etc en route and also take some time to make it look good at the end

All this Wife permitting of course.

We will be in France in June July (another Grandchild) so I might see what is available around that time .

My sis is coming over from the UK to see us while we are there and could maybe get an unfinished project to me

That is a maybe of course.

Basically that,s where I am at

Still working out logistics and making sure that when I start I will have enough info to finish the project.

This is definitely high on my bucket list as is the little house on a sub tropical beach to retire to.

British Honduras or Belize as it is known now is number one on my list when the wife Retires

Can then use the Huntsman whenever I please to tow my row boat out to good fishing.

                                          Thanks for the nice welcome

                                          I appreciate you replying

Just for the record, I'm only 62 (although our third great-grandchild – Felicity – arrived at 8.10 this morning….) and the nearest I've ever been to catgut was trying to play a violin at a drunken post-folk club party in 197-frozen-to-death. The violin belonged to Aly Bain who challenged me to play "Sweet Georgia Brown" on it. I failed miserably.

Anyroad up, I still have the scanned copy of the big Huntsman plan and the instruction manual if David is interested. I would advise avoiding the current version of the kit because the liteply IMHO opinion isn't up to the job and the die-cutting tools used to produce them are so worn that the parts rarely fit properly.

Don't do what Scott Pett, the Editor of Fairey Owners' Club magazine did. His missus finally gave him permission to buy a Huntsman 31 and he came home with a 12"=1 ft scale version on a low-loader! It's slowly being renovated on his driveway; I don't know if Mrs P has spoken to him since.

                                                Hi Dave

This will be my 3rd Grand child also.

What would you need to get the plans to me

I would be really grateful if its possible.

Thanks for the one up on the newer models and their quality and the potential wife issues.

I also did glass fiber canoes later on so I could handle some mods but wood is nice.

You got me wondering if I can actually get marine ply in 1/8th 3/16th thickness here in Canada

Just another thing to look into.

Scott sounds like my kind of man.

Memo to me No big surprises that are not Anniversary or Birthday gifts

Again, thanks for the offer of the plans.

I can pay of course just let me know how much and I will arrange to get it to you

(That was GREAT-grand……………. I already have seven of the GRAND type).

You will need access to AutoCAD R14 (or some thing that will open R14.DWG files) to view and plot the plans. Sending them to you will cost me nothing so we can settle at cost. I think the manual is in either JPG or PDF but that's a minor issue.

BTW It's not a good idea to publish your E-Mail address in open forum.

                                                    Hi dave

Do you need any info to send them to me.

and if so how do I get it to you.

The email I gave Has been in use since the 90.s and I am sure it has been out in the wild for a long long time,

                                                    But point taken

                                                    Thanks
