Is there such a thing as an ESC mounting bracket or support. I haven’t had much success searching the interweb.

Peter. Not sure I have ever seen one. Generally I use a cable tie to loosely restrain the ESC to a post or something. I have a few models with a wider aluminium bracket and tied the esc slightly tighter to it to get some heat transference to the bracket. It is important to ensure the esc is not enclosed tightly , it needs a bit of air space.

I have plenty of cable ties and self adhesive cable tie anchors I could use. I will give them a try.

Hi Peter, if you mounted the ESC on an alloy plate then to the hull you will get some cooling to the ESC and a firm mount to the hull

Velcro tape works for me. My ESC s don't get hot because they are working well within their capacity. so it works just fine, and it is easy to remove when I need to. Good for receivers too.

I use Velco for nearly all the electronics in my boats. Makes it easy to move or take them out again, never had a problem with anything coming loose. One boat even uses Velco for a lead acid battery and its never moved in use.

                  Quite cheap at Wilkos.

My ESCs usually just sit in an open box to stop them wandering around. Or a dab of Blu-Tak. Or if its a model with a bit of go, a Velcro pad or double sided tape. If I felt the need to heat sink an ESC, I would think that I should have got a bigger ESC.

Some early ESCs had lugs to help screw them to a wood panel (Electronize 43xx), but more often the lugs were used to be gripped by rubber bands or as an aid to a slide-in mount. Actually screwing the things down is over engineering that leads to making life difficult later.

Mtronics ESc`s used to have (on the finned side) a central circular tunnel (if that's the right word) and this was handy to put over a post (nail, end cut off) sadly they have deleted this and the finning is that same all over.

An open box also does it for me, easy and lets air around..

I'm with Malcolm and Chas here. It's self-adhesive Velcro every time and I agree 100% about a hot ESC being an overloaded one.

Mounting brackets – what do you mount the bracket to?

Velcro is winning over cable ties. I’ve plenty of Velcro as I use it on my G scale locos to hold the batteries secure. Good point about what do you mount the bracket to. On my Mowe 2 Trawler the servo can be screwed in with mounts and ESC could be(if brackets were available)

If something isn't available then there's always the option of making one. I've used aluminium right-angle extrusion for making servo mounts and brackets for mounting on/off switches. A Junior hacksaw, a drill with fine bits and a medium-fine file are all the tools you need. Degrease the finished job with white spirit or meths and that self-adhesive Velcro will stick to it like brown-stuff to bedclothes. 1/8" birch ply is also a very useful material for such items if you glue it up with epoxy and seal it against water.

You get a double dose of satisfaction in that it will fit the job exactly and you designed and made it yourself. We used to call such activities "model-making" when I was a kid.
