Ian, you are not out of the woods yet.

If you have bushes fixed, how did you detect excessive movement at the prop end?

How do you intend to seal the prop shaft from the ingress of water……Getting through the thread?

Bob I think I may have caused confusion. The brass bushes are external to the stern tube. At the prop I have a nylock M4 nut against the propeller then I have a 6 mm long brass bush with 2 X M4 nuts then a 4 mm nylon washer against the stern tube.

I am however disappointed at the "leakage" of oil out of the stern tube bypassing the nylon washer which I don't think is a tight enough fit to the 4 mm shaft

What do you suggest to close off this leakage which will as you state travel along the thread?

        Thanks again

How have you made the externally mounted bushes?

You still have not explained how you detected excessive prop movement at the prop end, especially since you have bushes fitted?

To prevent water getting past the plastic washer, you need end thrust to close the gap

You could adjust the end clearance to an absolute minimum at the motor end

A few photographs would be nice?

Bob I bought the external bushes.

tI'll try to take a couple of photographs tomorrow when I put it back together
