Hi everyone,i`m totally new to boat building and,i`ve just become the proud owner of a partly built Perkasa MTB.Wish i`d stayed with tank modelling seems so much easier. Have a few(well LOADS) of daft questions. The boat is 37" long so what scale would this be?and the daftest of all is just how many props and rudders should it have? It`s got 3 holes for the props but only 1for the rudder.CONFUSED.cheers

            Hi

I have just finished (Christmas) a Perkasa 37 inch model and it was an Aerokits model. The scale for the 37 inch version is 1:32, if it was the larger version it would be 1:24.

Some versions had single motors, some 2 and some 3, dependant on the kit or your choice. If it is your first kit it might be better to stick with single prop, motor and rudder as less RC requirement in the form of speed controllers or mixers.

What type of hull is it, ply, fibreglass or ABS ?

            Alan

              Hi

In the above I should have said a Precedent Perkasa model kit, the Aerokits was my fireboat.

                  Hi Larry

I have a lot of photos of my Perkasa during the build and here are a few up to its completion.

With the Precedent kit the quality odf materials leaves a lot to be desired, very grainy ply etc.and some of the pre-stamped parts not cut so well. Instructions are poor but get you thinking. But the price is low so not too bad and I am pleased with the result.

I have had more fun though building the little UTE from scratch – modded it a lot from Glyn's model and as I am cutting the parts I know they will be accurate and not trying to make the best with pre-stamped parts.

I have had my perkasa for a good 18 yrs and she is the " old lady " of my little fleet and even took her in to show my daughters infant class and they loved it .This was a good 10 years ago if not more as my girl is18 this year and off to uni , it's funny but it does not seem 5 minutes ago when she was by my side in my workshop in her p.j's and dressing gown sanding a block of wood for me and her mum playing hell with me for getting her dirty as she had just had a bath .Now she is off to study fine art so i guess helping her dad left an impression !!!!

Took my dukw out today and lost a wheel and the rudder linkage and apart from turning blue with the cold i had a good time out at the knapp in barry and a big thanks to all the guys at Barry Boat club and Margam Park Boat club for the warm welcome .

Hi madrankman, there arn,t any daft questions, although somtimes there are daft answers. Anyway, to try ans answer you, the full size Perkasa had 3 shafts and 2 rudders situated between the centre shaft and the outer ones.
That said, some great models have been made with 1,2,and 3 shafts. You take your choise. The advantage of one shaft is an easyer and cheaper imstalation.
                        I hope that helps,
                        Charlie.
