          Sorry Chris,

I meant to remove one and edit the other with an explanation but pressed the delete button instead!

As you will see from the 'Buy & Sell' topic heading, the selling facility is for regular contributors to the Forum only otherwise we would be overwhelmed by people using it as sales facility in place of online auction sites. The purpose of the Forum is to facilitate and promote discussion on model boat building.

Members are happy to give general advice but we do tend to get a number of the 'How much is my boat worth?' coupled with 'Does anyone want to buy it' types of post which essentially amounts to offering the model for sale and getting a free valuation thrown in!

Basically the answer to the first question is 'how long is a piece of string?' Anything is only worth what people are willing to pay for it, hence the popularity of the online auction sites. Generally speaking amateur made model boats do not fetch high prices which sometimes surprises people looking to sell models made by deceased relatives. This is generally because the value is 'sentimental' and does not translate into hard cash.

Even a well made kit model with working features and radio control will struggle to make anything near the cost of the kit and fitting out the model while the many hours spent constructing it count for nothing as they are 'hobby hours'. In fact the upmarket auction sites (not online) will rarely touch anything other than professionally made 'builders models' or the very highest quality amateur constructed models such as those which have achieved awards at major modelling exhibitions.

In general, our members are happy to give general advice on what to do with unwanted models (particularly in bereavement situations where the family doesn't know what to do with them) but actual sales must be conducted elsewhere.

I hope this goes some way to answering your questions.

          Colin Bishop
