Motor fuses should be between the battery and the Esc , putting them between the Esc and motor can lead to strange results

Hi The fuse will blow if the motor developes a fault, just the same. It will also blow if the Esc develops a fault. The main object of fitting a fuse is to prevent the battery discharging ALL its stored energy into a fault. If you effectivley short the battery with a fault condition with no fuse protection, you get much smoke and sometimes fire.

Mtronics Esc does have some built in overcurrent protection, But you should check what current your motors are taking If they normally exceed 25A (both added together) then you will need to address this with smaller props or bbigger Esc

                cheers Tom

Normally, it was said that any electronic device will protect any fuse in that the device will die before the fuse. The 25A ESC should have calmed things down before the fuse blew, but it probably relies on a thermal shutdown. Unless they are specifically designed to do so, fuses are relatively slow to rupture, so I would guess that both fuse and ESC were being overworked.

If running two motors from one ESC, fitting a fuse to each motor is a valid idea, If one motor gets into a situation where its fuse will blow, you still have a motor to limp home on.

If there is just one motor, the fuse needs to be between battery and ESC, and in any case should be at least a value down from what the ESC is rated for. A fuse there is also needed for multi-motor setups – like Tom said, its there to protect the boat against ESC faults.

Geoffrey. Pray tell us the type of motors fitted, the voltage and battery type and prop size, and we can argue the toss over the size of your ESC and likely fuse rating. cheers Ashley

When popping fuses I use the old standby of a 6in nail, works wonders for saving on fuses and keeps the interior of the boat warm as well.

for the hard of thinking..don't try this unless you are planning a Viking funeral for your pride and joy

Wine gums aren't the problem its the tramadol that the quack has me on that causes these rushes of insanity.

When are you at Manchester and where in the event can you be found (so I can send a stripogram)

Not wishing to sound like an old skinflint but I've just seen the entry price….£8.00 each…..I only want to visit the show not rent the building.

I can see how you can afford to retire at 38 and afford that snazzy workshop wink

Don't blame me, dude – I'm just one of the workers now.
Your main man is Chris Dieth who runs Meridienne Exhibitions and would tell you that Event City is not the cheapest exhibition space in the world for hire. Gone are the days when you can just charge a quid a head for entry – that wouldn't hire you a marquee big enough for a small private wedding reception. These days people expect to see a big roofed arena, ample car parking, proper indoor toilets, facilities for the disabled, catering, cash machines, WiFi, first aiders and all of the other things the HSE love to lay down the law about.
Some of the other model boat shows we attend and which are held in local sports centres are charged on at cost on the door, and that's invariably four quid plus.
With a cinema ticket costing over a tenner, a football match ticket (not Premier League) at over twenty quid and a round of golf at a municipal course twenty five quid plus, I reckon eight sovs is pretty good value for a day out. Lots of pretty model boats to see etc. This show is a multi-disciplinge one, too, so there will be trucks, railways and tanks as well as the more traditional model engineering stuff in addition to the boats.
Finally don't forget that the traders have to pay rent for their stands (several hundred pounds for even the smallest); we don't share in the takings from the door!

Value for money is not the phrase that springs readily to my mind, in fact I struggle to say anything nicer to say other than rip off, having done a quick mental calculation of incomings against outgoings I can see that there is a very heathy profit in this exhibition lark.

Perhaps I am out of touch with modern trends and the needs for a constant supply of Cafe latte and wifi but personally I can go for half a day without having to have an overpriced coffee or having to use the internet.

I don't mind the £4 entrance fee of the usual shows but £8 has overtones of Dick Turpin.

For the site owner, yes. For the person running the show, not so much. Did the quick mental calculation include the rent for the hall? It is a sad fact of life that there is a limited supply of good venues, and plenty of competition for their use, resulting in the site owners being able to maximise their return.
