        Hi
I am looking for Mr A. D. Boyd who scratch built a Torpedo boat with a Petrol motor driving 3 props prior to 1980.
I was very impressed with the article by A. D. BOYD in Model Boats
1980 Vol 30 No: 348 on page 100, relating to the T.K. PERKASA Torpedo
patrol boat and I want to build one myself.
        As I live at
Murray Bridge in Adelaide, South Australia, and A. D. BOYD is also an
Australian, I would very much like to make contact with him, or his
relations, to exchange ideas with him and to get to see his model if at
        all possible.
I would appreciate any lead to help me locate A D Boyd.
        Thanks

          Hi Stan,
Andrew is a member of our local club in Geelong. I’ll pass on your request to him.

            Hi Barry
Thanks for the info, this is the first time I have done anything like this before and its worked already.
Andrew sent me an email with his details and I will ring him tomorrow (Monday).
I have scratch built a boat that is worth looking at, a 1/20th scale (4ft long) steam operated model of the ADELAIDE Paddle Steamer.
I intend to take it to different clubs during the summer and will find out your club details and organize a trip over.
I am a member of S.A.S.M.E.E. South Australian Society of Model Engineering and Experimental, at Millswood in Adelaide.
            Thanks for your help

              Hi Barry
I have spoken at length with Andrew (Andy) who sold his boat some 30yrs ago, he has now set wheels in motion to locate the guy he sold it to, with the intention of me trying to buy it from him to use in my project, subject to its condition.
Andy thinks there is a meeting at Lake Goldsmith in October, if so I will probably take my boat there with my brother from Bendigo.
It was very good to get first hand technical info from the maker of a model in a magazine, which normally seems to far away from reality, very helpful.
              Thanks a lot
              Stan
PS: I might use this Forum again its a good system for confirming what you are doing, and who knows I may be able to pass on a few tips myself.

                Hi Everyone
I had great success finding A D Boyd (Andy the Australian) via the Forum. Thanks

He scratch built a 1/24th scale PERKASA Torpedo boat in 1980, it was also published in Model Boats in 1980 were I saw it and fell in love with it just 2 weeks ago.
As a result I decided to make one myself but using a Kit, and then set up the running gear.

So I tried to buy a PERKASA Torpedo Boat Kit in 1/24th scale, from Cornwall’s, and later others, and what do you know, the company who makes the kits has problems, and there are no Kits.

I’m 75yrs old and doubt I have time to scratch build the boat, as well as having the enjoyment of sailing it. I do have a new 26cc water cooled marine engine, and can machine the 3 prop drive system.

So my QUESTION to the Forum is: Do’es anyone know were I can buy a PERKASA (49″) 1/24th scale kit from ??????, or were I can get a secondhand boat from??????.

We are pretty limited “Down Under” in this boat building hobby as I know from scratch building a 1/20th (4ft) scale model steam operated Paddle Steamer, so any help is much appreciated,
                Thanks
                Stan
