How are tug fenders/tyres normally attached to tugs?? bits of rope tied to posts/bollards/stanchions??

oddly enough there is a tug that flashes up right next to me typing on the Howes advert! appears to be tied on with small rope through the wossitsname holes..freeing ports or whatever.

The photograph shows how the tyres are attached in this RTR Southampton tug. There are different attachment methods at various location around the hull.
