hi my name is Chris I have a plan of a narrow boat (Merry Anne) at 1/24 scale,

I'm planning to make this boat and fill it with furniture from a dollhouse but I do not know the scale of the dollhouse it seems the furniture and the people are very big for 1/24 scale.

I know I can blow up the plans for the boat but how much to increase the plans I do not know, can anyone help me please. Christopher spice

Hi Chris,

I have removed your email address as it isn't a good idea to post it on open forum. People will reply on the forum if they can help.

If you are looking at buying dolls house furniture then it should state what scale it is. If it is not 1/24 scale then you will need to rescale your drawings to match the furniture you are purchasing which is basically just an arithmetical conversion.

If you already have the dolls house items then you should be able to measure a selection of them and work out roughly what the scale is based upon how big the items you are measuring would be in real life.You can then have the plans enlarged to this scale.

Chris. I think the standard scale for dolls house stuff is 1/12, so your plans need to be twice as big. Alternatively, you will have to search on dolls house websites to see what other scales are out there for figures and so on.

The "default" scale for doll house bits is 1:12, so there is a good chance that what you have will look way too big. Doll house fittings are available at 1:24, and quite possibly other scales between, but take some finding. The alternative, as Colin says, is to redraw your model at 1:12. Obviously this doubles length, with and depth, less obviously, the weight goes up eight times, possibly a consideration if you have to carry it. The costs tend to go in the same direction, another point to consider.

Hi Chris,

As several people have already commented, 1:12 is the most common scale for dolls houses and associated accessories. You would need to get your plans doubled in size to match that scale. Alternatively, there is a more limited range of dolls house material in 1:24 scale which would match your existing plans.

Deans Marine do a 1:12 scale narrowboat hull which is about 43 inches long and can be made into a very detailed model which is not too difficult to launch, store or transport. I used it as the basis for my model Walbut Dream which was based on several narrow boats on which we have had family holdays.
