Hi All

My garage at the moment is not insulated and absolutely freezing. Is it too cold to spray paint when it is 5 degrees or less. I have to finish painting the hovercraft before fitting out the electrics.

Hi Andy

The short answer is………… It is to cold to spray.

The long answer involves surface & air temperatures, adhesion, humidity and a nasty thing called bloom.

If you wish to heat your garage so that you can spray it is important to use dry heat (electric) because gas heaters put all sorts of nasty's into the atmosphere including excessive moisture.

As Paul says, it is too cold. You would struggle with brush painting!

Very often it will state on the container what the minimum ambient temperature needs to be to use the paint and it is rarely less than 10C.

I painted the stand for no4 two days ago (plain grey undercoat) and a full day and a half later it was still slightly tacky!! a night in the kitchen cured it.
