Hi,
I am a new comer to the boat modelling. Currently I am working on a boat, which is based on Billing Boat’s Norden fishing boat. One thing confuses me is the wiring of the winch on the deck. I looked at many reference photos on the internet including Billing Boats’ own sample photos but I didn’t see wires on the winch at all. The question is how should I do the wires for this boat?
The description from Billing Boats’ manual suggests that Norden is an anchor seiner. Here is the quote from the manual “The vessels are still used for fishing, although emphasis is now on seine fishing, with fish pots and angling used only as occasional sources of extra income.
Weather permitting, fishing starts early in the morning and continues all day. The boats are lowered and raised be means of an electric winch, with wires embedded in a block firmly anchored a good distance from shore.
Before being hauled ashore, the boats are sailed as far up on the beach as the waves can push them. The winch hook is then attached to the bow irons for hauling.
The boats are lowered aft first, although with strong onshore winds the boats are turned on lowering, so that the bow faced the waves. This is a difficult and often quite dangerous operation. ”
This part really puzzles me. Does it mean the winch on the deck is used to haul the boat toward the shore where the winch wire is attached to a block located on the shore? If it is the case then I draw two wires on the photo attached here to indicate their position? Is my understanding right?
Or it maybe the other way around? A winch is located on the shore and the end of the wire is attached in the bow iron to drag the boat ashore. If it is the case then what the purpose of having a winch onboard immediately before the wheelhouse?
Could anyone shed some light on this question or on this type of fishing boat? Thank you very much!
