Information needed on Fairmile Launch article

I have been contacted by a gentleman in India who is proposing to build a full size replic of a Fairmile motor launch. He already has plans from John Lambert but is also jeen to locate a Model Boats article as follows:

A matter of interest was the HMNZAS Mako model featured in your magazines circa 1980-84 which a 75 ft. version of the Fairmile. Is it possible to procure a write up & scale drawings of the “Mako”

Can anyone recall when this article was published?

Fairmiles were built in Berwick-upon-Tweed, so a letter to the local museum (if there is one) might prove fruitful. There is no trace of once went on there now.

hi there,

To my knowledge this vessel is actually a converted harbour defence launch and not a Fairmile. If we have a look for the article in Model Boats about harbour defence launches round about the dates that have been mentioned by Colin that may be more helpful. The only thing I can think of is – if it is a Fairmile – the only one that I can think of would be the one that was planned and I don't think it was built was the Fairmile F.

Looking at the item listings in Magazine Exchange, a free plan (& part one) for a HDML appeared in the January 1984 magazine. Part two appeared in February.

Two further articles appear in the June and July issues.

Tony, yes, I had a look at these but from the information given, the HDMLs do not appear to be Fairmiles.

Update: The Gentleman is now expressing an interest in the HDMLs and has found one of the articles in his own collection. As Paul Freshney has built this boat I have suggested that he might like to take up the query.
