Good for you Eric, you are a braver man than I.

My Hood went back to the suppliers for correction of the alignment. We collected it on Monday and all looked well even the paint matched. They assured me that they had done the work and that the motors had been run for two hours. Once home I powered up only to find that two shafts still bind and stop the motors, they had only repaired the port shafts so I am awaiting an explanation. They even charged for the work. Am I annoyed? Yes. All that cost and I still cant use the model. We should not have to go through this should we?

seems to me that for the price of this model there seems to be quite a few problems. Not good for a manufacturer who normally produces excellent kits/ RTR`s. surely iff you start messing with a new item the garantee is void? Maybe iff you want the shafts realigned then it would be best to return it to graupner asking for a returns postage label and let them deal with it. I have looked at other web forums on this ship and the eugen and found quite a few people have had the same recurring problems. pretty poor show on graupner I say. These are just my views and have had no problems with the company in the past, just thought i would make a comment. keith

Well the HMS Hood had her maiden voyage on Sunday 2nd March with great presence in the pond.

All was running well until after 5 mins a brand new 5100Mah Mnh battery diedangryso 4500Mah 11.1v 3s Li-Po's on order.

There still appeared to be slight binding in the shafts but I am putting this down to the model having been sitting on display for years, despite my having soaked the shafts with WD40 and lubricating them with 3-in-1 oil. Before the next outing, I shall clean the shafts with pipe cleaners and lubricate with flake graphite.

She was slightly out of balance with a little to much ballast in the rear but this is something that cannot be checked in the bath at homeface 9

So come on all you owners of these great looking but flawed Graupner models, put your modelling skills to the test and get your models running and in the water, it really is not to difficult.

She's looking good Eric, a little low astern but ballast just forward of midships may bring it about right. I have been to Oxford today (second time) to retrieve the hull, they have removed and refitted the 'A' frames, also bored them out a little oversize, if nothing else the shafts now run free. there is minor damage…not spotted in the shop… that I will have to repair. Just the radio etc. to fit and she should be ready to run.

Thanks to all who took the trouble to put forward ideas.

Now converting Billings HMS Warrior to RC.

HI, took ownership of the Hood late last year, after working on her upper decks to super detail her, time this week to checkout the internals. obtained all the necessary electronics to get her powered but also noted the shaft misalignment. All four were out to some degree, but very careful manipulation of the A frames and tightness of the engine retainers has sorted the problem. Sure paint did flake off the frames but that was easily touched up. I found not tightening the engines retainers to much kept them better aligned and the shafts free running and hence engines cool to the touch. Fair to say the A frames are angled slightly from original but in my opinion a small price to pay for a working model. Hope this helps someone else in the same situation.
