I am just starting on a model "boat", after 20 years with model aeroplanes.

I want to build a radio controlled Duck. (Quack Quack type)

I have a small 1000Kv brushless motor that I think will drive the prop ok, with a 2S lipo battery.

Where can I get a suitable ESC, that will give me reverse from the Transmitter.

What sort of angle should the prop shaft be to the waterline?

Has anyone built one of these. I have a decoy duck to start off with.

      cheers BC

          Hi Barry.

          Welcome to the forum.

For prop shaft angle I try to stick to less than 15 degrees, although any thing up to 20 would work fine on a decoy. As for a reversing esc I don't know, but some one else will! (I see a lot of ducks around where I am, don't often see them swim backwards though!surprise)

Stick your build on the forum, I'm sure we'd all love to see what you're doing!

Thanks for that, I will see how that fits together. Will be a slow build, as it has to fit in between the glider building…

Mtronics do a suitable brushless marine ESC.

Aeroplanes seldom need reverse, the car people seem to want to use brakes on the way to reverse, with a boat, reverse IS the brakes. The different play areas do have different requirements, so for boat use its best to look for one designed by people who understand the difference.

Well, I have had 3 goes at getting a suitable ESC, and failed miserably. Still cannot find one that will do reverse.

So, if one of you kind people could help, I am looking for brushless, 2S, Max 20 Amp. and REVERSE.

Could someone give me a link to the right place and right supplier.

                Thanks in anticipation.,

                smiley BC

                    Hi Barry,

Here is a link to the Mtroniks one, rated at 30 amps, as suggested by Malcolm Frary.

There is a smaller version rated at 15 amps.

                      Hi Barry

I have built lots of funnices in the pass, myself I go with Bob vintage do a small brushless matched pair and they will be ,only to pleased to give you advice if it goes txxxs up. You can have great fun with a duck, the kids come up and try to feed them. The best of luck with your build

Thanks to you all for the replies. I have ordered one from The VMBC.

Now I have to insert the prop shaft up his back passage.

                          Thanks again BC
