      Hi Paul

My old boss often said he gets "A ship and an Aeroplane" when asking one of his staff for a simple mechanism etc

      ie……..Something OTT

To be honest, I've heard the phrase since!

In amongst Daves post there is a very valid point, as a group this forum isn't given to verbal outpourings.

It's only on the lesser forums that a myriad of folk chime in with "Yes, I'll be there! I'm bringing the mother-in-law, the dog, next-door neighbour's kids and a seven-course picnic!!"

'Fish and a Bicycle' isn't this a Black Sabbath track?

Might well be; I wasn't a fan of the Oz person. My recollection of it was from some or other 60's feminist who maintained that "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle". I often wondered how she opened screw-top jars.

          Bob

OTT? I suggest you re-read your own posting, railing against the apathy of forum members in general and 140 Etherow club members in particular. "It's just not good enough, chaps!" et seq.

It was a rant, Bob, or at least it had all the hallmarks of one.

Mine was a pale response, with my soap-box nowhere in sight. As I said, on this forum we're not all prone to gush and babble.

            Dave,

Using one of these, perhaps: **LINK** ?!

A quick google turned up the following explanation of the origins of the … like a fish needs a bicycle phrase, both in its feminist version and in some previous guises: http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/414150.html.

It's just not good enough, chaps!

Time to put our cards on the table and face the sad state of affairs!

What are you on about, you old windbag?……….I'm hearing you mutter under your breath

This is what I'm on about…………

This thread was posted, as a gentle reminder to all our fellow model boat makers in the North West area, that the famous model boat convention at Ellesmere Boat Museum is on again this weekend

                    The response has been pitiful!

Only five members have made a comment!

Is it because the hobby is dying out?

Is it too early in the season for the elderly model makers, due to the cold weather?

Is it because, model boat builders are generally getting on a bit and can't get on the net without some help from the kids…….Most probably

Is it just plain old apathy?

                    Etc etc

We have quite a few readers of this post, but hardly any comments

The apathy is not just down to this website…….Our excellent club blog has 140 members and nobody will make a comment……….That definitely is not good enough and very discouraging for the club compiler!

Let's show some interest in the hobby you chaps and make a comment of some sort?

Got a few backs up there….eh?

Actually you are doing quite well, as I write, you have had 528 Views for the Ellesmere Port Spring Show, with 30 reply's which is 0.05618 reply's per view..

Another thread has 91,526 Views !! and 1271 posts, most of those by the thread originator which works out at 0.013887 reply's per view.

So really your not doing to badly..

As regards the other thread, I enjoy reading it but have nothing of value to add to the posts so just read it and enjoy..

The link is working. If you 'click' on it (LH button + one click) it will change the page you are seeing on the screen. The new page is the "Latest Posts" page of this Forum.

This page is a list, arranged in date order, with the most recent postings at the top.

It is set out in columns, although these are not labelled or headed as "Column 1" et seq.

The first column – on the left-hand side – shows the title of the thread in bold typeface, the name of the author, an optional sub-title which often explains and expands on the title, and the particular Topic under which it has been posted.

The data supplied by Larry are shown in the second and third columns. These are respectively the number of subsequent postings which have been made since the original one, and the total number of times the thread has been viewed by Forum members.

If you scan down these columns you will soon find the thread which has approximately the same numbers as Larry quoted. They will not be exactly the same because time has passed since he noted them and further replies and views may well have occurred. It should, however, be immediately apparent that the thread in question is titled "Today's boating" and was originated by Ashley Needham.

Please don't hesitate to ask any further questions if this explanation has been confusing or full of aeroplanes and ships.

Pity about the Cafe being shut……..I'm sure this was the main reason for the shortfall in visitors?

Had a nice couple of hours wandering around the show with my grandson.

We fell across Bob when crossing the locks, as usual the Captain was taking photos with his tablet but took time out to arrange the hand over of a boat and tell me that Neil was there with his daughter and a cute little dog.

We looked hard but couldn't find Neil anywhere.

Not so many traders this year but those who are there are carrying a large and varied stock and were doing a brisk trade in the time that we were there. The Component Shop in particular had a long queue of hopeful customers all clutching wads of cash (yeh right)

The weather cooled down considerably after 2pm so after picking up Brutus from Bob (and Ducky) I set off home.

For those going tomorrow the usual cafe is closed for refurbishment but there is a very decent catering van behind the venues powerhouse and the upstairs area where the traders are is nice and warm.

                                            Paul

Thanks to Bob for Brutus and the fitted pair of brushless motors & ESC's

                                              What a nice surprise

We went to the show today, nice day and enjoyed wandering about, looking at this and that

The trade stands were a bit short on visitors this year, but at least, we could get near the goods for a change

Your old Action stand looked interesting with the new selection of Brushless motors on offer

Met Paul and his grandson snooping about……..He had a look at the motors too

Now that he has Brutus now, he can have a play and get more confident with these new fangled things?

                                              Many thanks once again

                                                Hello Paul

It was nice meeting up with you again and seeing Ryan too

I was hoping to demo Brutus on the water, but it did suddenly get very cold……and thought better of it!

The strong wind would have been a problem anyway

All the best with Brutus, but you may have a problem controlling the twin motors, without the twin stick tranny?

Using one stick controlling two motors, I suggest you switch one motor on at a time, to check for correct running first

                                                All the best……Bob

Pity about the Cafe being shut……..I'm sure this was the main reason for the shortfall in visitors?

Not Sure that would really make any difference, I don't go for the food ( I take my own anyway)..

Well despite yesterdays little set back I was up and able to go to day after fighting off the mystery illness !! Wonder if SWMBO had anything to do with that ?? Luckily only a 30 mins drive for me despite the driving rain, that said the water was in use later on in the day. Got Everything I wanted from the traders so thanks for bring there..

Will Post A few pics later.
