I came up with this simple and very effective idea after looking at many “professional versions”. I simply could not be bothered with having to make paper pattern of hull profiles, then transfer them to wood, then cut them out and finally then make a cradle.
this version can be easily adapted and extended/ shortened to suit any boat length or width, by simply adding or subtracting a few cm’s or inches from your own desired cradle size.
I used some square section wood to make up the base frame, glue and screw the corners together, using simply lap joints nd a dowel pin for added strength. then attatch 4 upright posts of a height that will allow clearance under the hull of your boat.
then use a length of webbing strap, similar to that used for luggage ties, affix one end to the posts on one side of the carrier, then make a shallow “loop” across to the other side, then what I did was slide over a jubilee clip over the post and webbing and secure, htus I can adjust the “loop”, allowing me to carry deep hulls or shallow hulls with ease and safety.
takes about an hour to make once you have been to the shops ot get all your bist required.
You can also then attach some nylon rope or even some more webbing and make up some carrying handle “loops”, I did and attached them with clip fasteners so i can also remove the carry straps if I need to.
this makes a nice light easy frame to use. it can be used for carrying your boat to and from the pool, it holds the boat safely whilst moving in your car. it also acts as a building frame whilst you have a boat under construction in your workshop too.
AND it fits ANY boat hull you make the frame capable of carrying . As the webbing adapts and shapes itself to the profile of each hull, so you dont have to make a “type specific” stand for each model boat. Not if you dont wish to of course.
