Can anyone please tell me what is the most suitable glue to stick wooden parts to inside a fibreglass hull. I am building a Graupner Rubin Yacht.

This is a well known problem!

The standard method is to use Epoxy Resin, such as Araldite

I'm surprised the instructions don't mention this?

Will you post a few pictures of your progress please, as the Rubin is a handsome model

Hi! I am using STABILIT EXPRESS. It sets within 12 mins in normal weather conditions. In warmer weather it can drop down to around 9 mins. I also used a couple of fast cure (2-3 secs) glues and they work well. I would also suggest that you sand the area of the fibreglass hull that you will glueing the wooden part.

Hi Roy,

like Danos I use Stablit express for all wood to fibre glass and to vacuum form hulls too. It's also great on wood to wood, wood to metal etc. I now use it with a decreased catalyst mix for fixing decks on yachts (the smaller quantity of catalyst increases the set time) giving a good working time. [30 minute epoxy is just as good] As Danos says, the warmer the quicker the set.

Stablit is recommended by Graupner and used to be included in their kits, but I suppose the new postal regs have stopped such being sent about the world.

If you "google" Stablit Express" you'll find a UK supplier (Westbourne models for one). It might seem expensive, but it goes a long way and has a really good shelf life. Oh, and the odour is not overpowering, and the glue comes with its own mixing trays, spatula and catalyst scoop! And for the chemists amongst us, its a methylacrylic based adhesive.
