All Russki tomorrow, with the A90 Ecranoplan, the Zis485 and the Tup. A Lander of course as usual as well.

Rigging on gunboat looking really cool. Need to add few more lines from the tops of the masts down to the base for extra oomph.

Sigh. Crashed and flipped the ‘plan on “the log”, turned the Tup over. Went home.

A small dent, almost not worth filling under the Ecranoplan nose, no other damage. Tup simply flipped, no damage.

Bizarrely the Ecranoplan floated on just the nose and tail with one wing keeping it upright and the body was well clear of the water. It was almost bone dry inside (more or less) when pushed back to the jetty by the ferry.

Tup released loads of water when recovered from its upside down position but this was just water filling the cabin top (I kept it upside down when taking top off) and similarly the inside was also quite dry.

There was no yellow smoke. Neither were working but likely the receivers ware a bit damp. Esc On Tup had been sealed with silicone sealant. I will do same for Ecranoplan..I think it was the first time it has flipped..

Whew. Both boats worked ok on connecting up a battery. Slight dent filled underneath Ecranoplan.

Diamond now working ok with a Quickrun ESC.

Is it worth having the Action esc repaired?? (Financially)?

Fiddling with cannon on gunboat. Pivot eyes fitted at the front of them all, pivots fitted on deck (pop rivet heads). Could do with an army type field piece , as these were often carried as a little something extra.

Need to make the paddles next.

Hi, I am working on a TV show in London and I am looking to hire a 1/150 (roughly) model of a British Navy ship that could have been around in the 80's.

I don't have much understanding of models like this but I am looking for some advice as we need to hire a model for the beginning of next week. If anyone could point me in the right direction or is willing to hire their model out would be greatly appreciated

                    Thanks, Charlotte

                      Hi Charlotte.

Could you tell us the context in which the model will be used please, and how "good" the model needs to be….ie, if used for anything close does it need to be fully detailed? ALSO….although 1/150 describes the scale ok, a minesweeper and an aircraft carrier will be vastly different sizes, so it there a preferred overall size you are looking for???

Carrier 4 foot, destroyer 5 foot long, for instance

Ashley (Has already had several boats appear in film!!!!!) (assuming you mean 1980`s!!!!)

                      HMS Invincible#3

                      HMS Manchester#3

dscf1137.jpgThis was the bunch of boats they took away last time, although they only used the Titanic and Argus.

The Argus appeared briefly in one shot (on top of a wardrobe….don’t ask) but the Titanic featured big time in several scenes ,the last on a table in front of one of the lead actors and was heavily lit and zoomed into from a distant point and looked fantastic!.

i had access to the film, I will try and see if it is still available (as its a long time ago) to view.

All this on Todays boating” a long time ago…very lucrative (nothing on offer) but I was invited to the premier viewing with free wine and nibbles!

                          Oooh Charlottes leaving it late!

Unfortunately thinking about it, although theres probably a lot of destroyers and STUFF about, they will mostly be WW2 era. The Invincible and Manchester (above) both fit into the 80`s category and my Oberon sub and Alvis Stalwart also fit (stretch of imagination to make the Alvis into an RN ship!)

Have been painting little men today and cannon. Once painted I need to be creative in personnel placement in order to suit both size tops, or at least, the men will make the top a different size. I have an idea though!

Sunday likely second attempt to sail HMS Diamond.

                            GEOFFREY'S BELT — Michelle May Costume (amaisiedesign.com)

This is the film, made for a Cannes shorts (10 mins films) show I seem to remember. Years ago my word. Blink and you will miss the stripy one which is on top of the bedroom wardrobe early on!

I am on the credits as well….wowser! Didnt realise it was on `t internet until I just looked.

I also seem to remember recommending the Titanic as the film called for him to be pretending to be making the boat, and as the top and masts came off , and the top is a decent size it appeared to me to suit those scenes….and thus why we need to know the context of boat use for Charlotte. I even had the foresight to provide some paint tins, brushes and so on to accessorise his dining table.

But am i famous?? no, was I compared to Geoffry at home…. yes.

I was just perusing the original Slo Mo shun thread from Bob, and came across a remark I put on there saying that a simplified Stingray was on the to-do list…and that was in November 2009!!

So only 12 years on the list then!

Other than waiting for some deck-house type vents and funnel vents, on which to place crewmen, the crew is almost fully assembled for my gunboat and paddle warship and they look fab. Not exactly the right style but naval men of a suitable size for the period are thin on the ground, and if available would be all-action poses which would actually be quite limiting. Much as all my men are standing around or walking, unfortunately these are the more useful poses when you want loads of men on deck.

I was lucky with the London, as I found sets of ‘builders’, and at the tiny size I used, they were great for manning all the guns on deck.

I may find 35 and 25mm figures yet of course, but war game type metal ones tend to be very chunky compared to my cheap plastic figures.

Slo mo shun was a free plan in Model Boats of a junk, of which I made two. One in the early 90s and another about five years ago. Didn’t sail well and the last one is now a toy for my granddaughter to play with in the paddling pool!

I think sometimes some models, in particular it seems performance based ones, do not always scale down particularly well.

Always disappointing when a lot of work has gone into it.

…which is why most of my models are “a representation of” rather than strict scale.

To be fair, Bob made many alterations at the back end which may not have helped….

The junk Richard was referring to may have been a GG plan?. (Can’t remember) but it did not sail at all. It was novel though as we don’t see many junks , just junk…..

Watching a “vintage model boat” on eBay. Awful build, asking loads (hundreds) for it. Just out of interest.

No boating today. Raining and blowing a gale here.

So boat boxes nicely stacked ready will have to be replaced on the shelf and batts stored.

I have a shelf stacking diagram to adhere to, to ensure maximum packing density having spent more than a few hours moving stuff around to achieve best use of space.

The shed roof is higher at the rear (it slopes up f-b) sowhen I get really desperate the boxes could be stacked three high at the rear on the top shelf but it would be afaff getting these ones out. Nowhere near that yet, and before that I would get rid of a few….

…possibly theGlorious light battle cruise, Jersey OPV, German lander and EVEN the carpet carrier (as its essentially the same as the better Invincible).

Have stocked up on 3x 1000Kv and 2x 1400 Kv 28mm brushless outrunners for replacements and future projects.all came with 30A esc’s and massive 10×5 props!, (surplus to requirements)

Shelves have been very slightly rearranged, again, to accommodate the new (unfortunately large) box that houses the gunboat masts.

I am about to start on a canal boat, believe it or not, so am researching pictures of canal boats.

I am going with a cargo sort of style, as the central well will be able to have interchangeable loads in it…like coal, gravel…or even sacks/barrels and a crane. The boat size has already been fixed, due to the aim of the ongoing project so the first task is to decide a figure size to suit this. This will determine the relative scale and thus affect the size of the ‘accessories’.

THEN….I will get the big balls out for the LPG top……..or I might do this in parallel with the canal boat..see how we go. Getting nippy in the shed now.

Looks nice for a bit of boating this morning. Need snaps of Sting and fishy together. Had flu jab, covid booster not until dec/jan.

Having said I was looking at pictures of canal boats…I fell asleep, so will be doing a freelance canal top, after all, how hard can it be? there’s no actual template for one. The cargo well will accept a slip-over live-in type top so I can have two “looks”. The man I have used as scale is 3.75” so an “industry” standard figure size meaning I can have WHO I want on the back..or front I suppose.

Usual thing for this time of year, cut wood, apply PVA…bring inside to put on warm fish tank to dry.

Hi Harry. Not sure what you mean there as I have nothing in the Dec mag (that I am aware of)….?

The only pirate at Bushy park is Richard!

We use the landers as rescue boats. I have seen the pictures of the bent pipe device and we have tried similar sorts of things before but found you need quite a powerful boat to make them work. The landers are low power but super manoeuvrable at low speeds and a bit of pipe insulation slips over the bow to provide a soft grip.

Weather not great here either, getting nippy and has been a bit grey and drizzly.

Only a couple more Sundays to go before all the Christmas lights and tops come out for boating!,

There was a rescue device in the November magazine, which is possibly what is being referred to. That article however was by Phil Scales but, what the hell, let's blame Ashley for something whether he did it or not!

                                                      Why not eh!

Obviously I would not hesitate to rip off anything produced by Harry….
