I saw that about a guy and his son who went to their local pond in Wiltshire and were told they couldn’t sail there because the water was too dense? Apparently the pond in question is only a couple of feet deep so a fully grown man would be unlikely to drown, wet knees probably, plus his grown up son was with him!

I think I would have told Mr health and safety to go and do something more useful in a rude way!

      Ricky ye slightly unsafe pirate!

Cycled over the park this afternoon. The water level is very high and the jetty is almost completely submerged. Several seagulls were stuck due to the dense ness of the water…like syrup it was.

i had porridge this morning and scattered some dried fruit on it, but was nearly dragged in by a strong current!

The swampy bit by the next pond looks like the Everglades and I was wondering if the toyboata would go on it….? Hmmm..may do a bit of “boating by bike” if nice.

Have rushed out to get a copy of my favourite magazine (in brown paper)…..AND Model Boats!

What a cracking issue full of fabulous articles etc etc,

But it bugs me that some people simply do not get the point of some articles and miss the point altogether. The Walrus was the 4th of my non-flying boat to appear in the mag, the others have all been well received, especially the A90 Ecranoplan at the time. It was made abundantly clear that it was a different sort of boat and not a flying machine although the pictures do actually show it with clear air underneath. Hmm.

"the team" at Bushy have some absolutely spiffing mass builds coming up, real crowd-pleasers and I predict a big crowd draw at the pond this summer. I will even be offering a plan to go with one of them in the event that my humble submission is accepted and whether or not it becomes a giveaway free plan will be up to the editors nerve however a PDF will be available for anyone that is interested will be available if not.

If anyone wants to see what encouraging the younger generation looks like….Bushy park is the place.

Yes Ashley, there are those who do miss the point altogether and obviously don't read the article properly. They are those who just look at the pictures as Paul Freshney used to say.

Your next gunboat model will clearly be expected to slaughter the onlookers and any nearby deer with explosive shells to demonstrate its credibility.

There's no pleasing some folk unfortunately. We should just ingore them.

                Ashley.

Just a word of praise. I always enjoy your articles as they are both well presented and are something that is both attainable and out of the ordinary. I have absolutely no problem with non flying aircraft and DUKW (& variants) that only work on water etc. They are stimulating ideas.

Your articles, & Glynn Guests, are somehow attainable models that will generate interest in both the magazine and at the pond. Interest hopefully equals both continuing interest of existing modellers and new future modellers.

Well done & don't be put off. Your modelling is fun & I am all for it.

                  Hi Ashley,

Yes I did the WH Smith's dash this morning for the April issue, and liked the Russian Duck

I could see how you could be slightly vexed about Mr Not Impressed Robert Stableford's comments !!

Do we know where he lives ?? We will send the Boys round !!

                  Good free plan next month…..

Ashley has a knack of finding the odd and sometimes forgotten ships, planes and amphibious vehicles of a bygone era, simplifying them and turning them into a working models. Long May it continue as it would be a boring hobby if everybody built the same.

Cheers geezers. Hankering after a micro-build. Something small and very easy. Almost something to “just carry around” in case.

Have my brushed edf and wondering if adequate performance might be had on a 1/2 size (ish) Swordfish?

The performance of the Swordfish was not great with the brushed one however something smaller might just make it viable. Perhaps built from foam… and having more of a tunnel hull. An air rudder would then make it useful in weedy conditions as well. It could be stowed in the shed rafters too out of the way.

Well the end is in sight/nigh/ light at the end of the tunnel etc as from tomorrow two people (two each end of the jetty….obv) are allowed to meet outside.

SO. Tuesday am sharp for a bit bit of Tup action and a chance to give the secret projects a work-out, perhaps some fishy action??

Had to search for todays boating as it was such a long way down due to boating inactivity and consequently nothing to speak about.

Could you explain Tup action as it has a very clear meaning up here in Gods own counties, I realise that you will be happy to see friends again but this would be a couple of steps beyond what Uncle Boris envisioned.

I finally got my Pilot Cutter PEE-WEE on the water for her maiden voyage, despite the gusty and varible direction of the wind the cutter handled it well, maybe due to a displacement of twenty two pounds, ten of them on the removable keel.img_1072.jpg

Todays boating was originally set up so that everyone could share their sailing. Unfortunately it seems to be more of an "Ashley blog". I assume someone MUST be sailing but they dont want to share??

Hi Eddie, due to my recent problems with low receiver power warnings I need to ask you……

Do you use 5v BEC from the speed controller? Or do you use a dedicated receiver battery? How much current do your servos consume no load / with load?

                                                    George

Hi. Colin/ Ray, thanks for your kind remarks, I was pleased with the way she sailed for the first time on the water, I don’t think I need to change anything. It’s good what you can achieve with some cheap bed sheets from Dunhelm.

George, I haven’t recharged the batteries in the Cutter yet so not sure how much power she used, but the IOM uses around 650 ma in a two hour sailing session driving a Hitec HS 785 HB sail arm servo and a standard servo on the rudder, all of my sail boats only have sail power so no esc’s are fitted just a 6 volt battery through the receiver, and sailing an IOM you are always twiddling the sticks.

                                                      Regards to all.

                                                      Eddie.
