Yesterday I fitted the rudders to project V. These are pinned to the rudder shaft so I can dismantle them. They are a bit wobbly but should be more than good enough. The drilling (1mm drill) with the Dremmelly thing was ok, but I need some stainless 1mm wire…the welding wire I have is 1.6mm, and this is too big a hole for a 4mm shaft.

Next I have to get a satisfactory rudder operation system…a pully on the shaft is what I am going for, with Nylon line, and a stop tomorrow at the fishing shop should furnish me with some fatter line than I currently have.

I purchased some paint for the sides and bottom and had an absolute brainwave whilst looking in Halfords regarding the colours, as you will see later on. Not only pretty but realistic too. The rudders will be a different colour though, to look EXTRA pretty.

      Cyano….from the pound shop Noel!!

Almost bought some 4mm ply from Homebase in Ewell but there were no decent bits there.

Nylon line and stainless steel trace purchased along with some crimps. Just the job.

Interesting chat to my mate Paul (not a modeller) and its funny how people see things that you don't, even having scrutinised plans and pictures for some time. This insight was regarding the masting, and so on, a good spot and something else to add to the rigging conundrum.

Sunday I think may be a Titanic day, with something a bit exotic on the side, and poss an outing for the ferry.

week after, the 29th, will be the bike ride and various roads and H/Ct bridge will be closed to traffic for much of the day, precluding any boating on my part.

Arr Richard. Glad to see you have furnished your galleon and now its a REAL pirate ship.

Remembered I have a GIG with the band on Sunday. I may make a very brief appearance first thing only.

              Ok, see you there.

Is there anybody who does plans for Brunel’s ships? I’m thinking maybe Great Eastern?

Quite fancy a paddle steamer project.

              Suggestions please.

You should talk to Captain Bob Abell, he built one that appeared on tv.

Looks like the great west London barge build off will be notched up a gear as I intend to build one myself!

I have a lot of off cuts left over from the galleon build plus it will give my tug Tilly something to drag round the pond.

Thanks chaps for your input about the Great Eastern, still mulling it over as that will be a winter project as my garage is like a furnace at the moment!

Titanic leak identified and corrected (hopefully!!!). Sprayed bottom of Project V in its special colour…fabulous!!!

No boating coming Sunday 29th due to bike ride race thingy.

If your interested I will be pondside tomorrow at about 9.30ish, no pressure it’s my mid week foray.

Unfortunately out on a weds mornings at band.

Continued work on rudder arrangement for proj V. Adjustable servo mounts made and correct operation of servos sorted out (so they both operated the correct way)>

A strut is needed now to put the mount on, and then a rail for the battery and this all has to clear mast mounts!

Titanic back in box ready for next sailing opportunity.

Didn’t miss much, wind blowing weed all over pond and it was hotter than a boiled cat on that jetty!

Had an issue with Tilly, very glitchy control, suspect Ariel on receiver ,very strange?

Going to do a reccy on the barge at Twickenham for some ideas for my one over weekend.

                                Catch you the following Sunday.

Just spent £130 on bits, metal mostly, form prok V.

Unavoidable, but did include some very large davits.

ALSO having actually found some ships boats of the correct scale and look, I have decided not to fit them, or at least not permanently. This is due to the sticky outness of them and the likelihood of Mr Clumsy breaking them, and also it would preclude and contact with the jetty, when coming alongside . The davits will swivel, and I have decoded that the boats can be hooked on as necessary, and this will help storage, as the box will only be about 10 inches wide and not 14.
Servos in and linked to the rudders. Rudder operation seems to be a bit all or nothing but this is fine and you will see why later on. Some work has been done on the bulwarks, and I have also fixed in my mind the various additions to the hull outer (awaiting stuff).

There are several bulwark cutaways and the hinging of the covering flaps is causing me some indecision.
Barn-door flaps or fold down`s, this seems to be the options but there are no references to the correct method. Common practice for this class of ship had them one way, but the only half decent picture of it makes me wonder if they were the other way?? What to do??

I am proposing at trip to Chatham soon-ish to view a ship based there and this may provide some answers. I wonder if they have any archives for boats???? Hmmmm

                                    Hi Ashley,

They have 3,000 models in store at Chatham, worth giving them a call or email if there is a specific ship your researching. This explains why there are relatively few at Greenwich NMM these days

Looking to put some sound effects/music in the pirate ship, have acquired a mini SD card with galleon type noises on it but now need to play it with a reasonable volume in the boat.

Any ideas as the last time I did something like this I used a Walkman! (Old school)

Good Question Cap`n. A mini I pod or something might be easy or perhaps something with blue tooth and a set of battery operated blu tooth speakers for the volume??

I think a search on eBay may be required.

I know there are sound systems for model boats but you probably don't want to go that far.

I could do with some band sounds in the Titanic.
