More about me:

I started model boat building when I gave up playing competitive rugby about 1990, to get me away from the apres game on Saturday afternoons!
I started with a Biliings Viking boat kit, then straight to a tb Celia Jane from Metcalf Mouldings. Since then I've built several period ships, starting as kits, then adapting kits to correct for errors. I've built a Celestine (as the Sea Crusader), two small tugs, three 1OM yachts and a Phigit yacht amongst several restorations and repairs for other boaters. My current projects include a tb Lady Daphne (see AMBO site), a vintage yacht restoration (1910), a Bounty, two Star yachts, and another period boat being delivered today for a re-rig!

I'm a member of AMBO, the Manx MBC, IGKT and the VMYG and the MYA.

I've been involved in search and rescue here on the Island since 1973, firstly with the Coastguards in both an MRSC and the cliff rescue team, and in 1981 I transferred to the RNLI, where I still serve but no longer afloat (over 55) but as the DLA of Ramsey station.

I also enjoy gardening, and my four grandchildren, I used to race motor cycles as well. All in all a full and busy existence.

Make your own contribution to the Website

We welcome well written contributions from Website members on almost any aspect of Model Boating with a particular emphasis on practical hints, tips, experience and builds.

In order to maintain a consistent standard and format, all suggestions should first be sent to me by Personal Message for approval in principle. Only a very limited amount of time is available for editing contributions into a suitable format for placing on the website so it is important that the material is well presented, lucid and free from obvious spelling errors. I think it goes without saying that contributions should be illustrated by appropriate photos. I shall be happy to give advice on this.

The Member Contribution area offers space for short informative mini articles which would not normally find a place in Model Boats magazine. It is an opportunity for Website Members to freely share their  expertise and experience but I am afraid that virtue is its own reward as there is no budget to offer more material recompense!

I look forward to receiving your suggestions.
