More about me:

I live in East Yorkshire and have been building model boats for about 10 years in total, but really it is only in the last 5 years that I have become seriously involved.

I spent all my working life at what is now BAE Systems, although when I started in 1970 it was known as Hawker Siddeley Aviation.  I worked as a Flight Systems Engineer, mainly on engine installations, starting, fuel, hydraulics, flying controls, landing gear and escape systems.  Initially most of my work was on the Buccaneer and Phantom aircraft.  I then did three years running a research group studying computer control of fuel and hydraulic systems followed by a year on loan to Pilatus Aircraft in Switzerland working on their PC9 trainer.  For the last twenty years or so I was the engineering manager of  the Flight Systems group supporting the in service Hawk jet trainer fleet all around the world.

I retired at the end of 2009, thinking I would have plenty of time for model boat building but lots of other jobs and projects have come along since.  I am a  have converted most of our garage into a workshop and done lots of other diy jobs.

I am married and my wife is also a keen model boat enthusiast, but whereas my main interest is in scale models, hers is in vintage yachts.  We have two children one still at home and the other away at university.   Our other interests are gardening and we have a menagerie of animals including 3 guinea pigs, two dogs and horse.  We also socialise Hearing Dogs for Deaf People so we are definitely not short of things to do in our retirement.

Make your own contribution to the Website

We welcome well written contributions from Website members on almost any aspect of Model Boating with a particular emphasis on practical hints, tips, experience and builds.

In order to maintain a consistent standard and format, all suggestions should first be sent to me by Personal Message for approval in principle. Only a very limited amount of time is available for editing contributions into a suitable format for placing on the website so it is important that the material is well presented, lucid and free from obvious spelling errors. I think it goes without saying that contributions should be illustrated by appropriate photos. I shall be happy to give advice on this.

The Member Contribution area offers space for short informative mini articles which would not normally find a place in Model Boats magazine. It is an opportunity for Website Members to freely share their  expertise and experience but I am afraid that virtue is its own reward as there is no budget to offer more material recompense!

I look forward to receiving your suggestions.
