Sorry Bob no progress yet, the new icebreaker looks like a nice challenge but not for a while…. unless someone comes up with a commission.

What would be nice and would capture builders imagination, would be a large Thames Spritsail Barge?

They race four footers now, but racing eight footers would be spectacular and really worth watching

I wish I was five years younger!

The actual construction would be lovely too…..Plank on frame of course and chunky with it

Working Lee boards…..Aux motor essential

The wind would really catch those enormous sails and add to the excitement

The access only has to allow a small boy to crawl inside.

Probably why the small boy suggested a better access arrangement in the first place.

After the recent pause in production I am happy to say that work has restarted on Thor which is now resplendent in its coats of Red, Blue and White paint (sorry Bob you will have to wait for photos)

I am now itching to begin the next challenge

  

Isn't it nice.

I have been looking forward to doing a 5ft model and this one might just fit the bill.

That is very pretty but too big for me at five feet. Three feet would be more suitable. Plank-on-frame, I presume? Is it a twin or single screw?

It is a very pretty boat and the only reason for building at 5ft is to capture all of the nice little details….and you know what I am like for bigger models.

It would look magnificent at 5ft

I am intending a simple plank on frame design with a nice pair of slow running motors.

Yes it would be a tight fit but for moving the big models around I use my lwb Trooper, heavy on diesel but it can easily accommodate my larger creations.

These are the latest photos of the Thor prototype

The work on the superstructure is basic but you can get the general idea of how the finished model should look.

The hole in the rear deck is where the towing post fits, when fitted the base of the towing post threads into a socket fixed to the bottom (inside) of the boat and the top stands 4in (100mm) above the rear deck.
