Having not looked in at the forum for several weeks, I only now saw the mournful news of Dave's passing.

I met Dave in person just the once, at the IMBS in 2018, but had and have been in contact with him, on and off, both here on the forum and outside it, before and after that, and found him a most delightful person, with a keen intellect, a solid sense of humour, a ready tongue and readier wit, extensive knowledge, a readiness to share that knowledge, and a willingness to help and encourage others.

The world of model boat building will be a lesser place without him. The world be will a lesser place without him.

I'm deeply saddened by his loss, and would like to extend my most sincere condolences to his family.

Mattias

Liz Milbourn would like to share the image below in memory of Dave.

When they were clearing out his clothes, her daughter took away Dave's favourite shirt that he had worn for years and his Action R/C Electronics fleece without her noticing it. She then presented Liz with 'Little Dave' made out of his shirt and the fleece and with the Action R/C Electronics logo displayed. As Liz says: ‘Such a lovely idea! so I have my 'Little Dave' now to remind me of the bigger one and he even has the same clothes!’

One could imagine Dave’s comments on this – they would probably include a reference to his favourite glass of Jack Daniels but the rest might have been unprintable!

I’m sure many of us will raise a glass to Dave to mark his funeral on Monday. Webcast details are listed on the other thread on the Forum.

RIP Dave, we’ll certainly miss you.

Colin

I have not looked at the forum for some time until today and it was only when I got the latest magazine that i saw the sad news about Dave. I did not know him personally but I enjoyed our chats on the Forum especially about Fairey boats. He will be a great loss to the model boat community and, obviously to his family, to whom I send my heartfelt condolences.

Make your own contribution to the Website

We welcome well written contributions from Website members on almost any aspect of Model Boating with a particular emphasis on practical hints, tips, experience and builds.

In order to maintain a consistent standard and format, all suggestions should first be sent to me by Personal Message for approval in principle. Only a very limited amount of time is available for editing contributions into a suitable format for placing on the website so it is important that the material is well presented, lucid and free from obvious spelling errors. I think it goes without saying that contributions should be illustrated by appropriate photos. I shall be happy to give advice on this.

The Member Contribution area offers space for short informative mini articles which would not normally find a place in Model Boats magazine. It is an opportunity for Website Members to freely share their  expertise and experience but I am afraid that virtue is its own reward as there is no budget to offer more material recompense!

I look forward to receiving your suggestions.
