Hi Chris/Ray,

My intention is to apply cellulose dope when the wallpaper paste has dried I should have said that, sorry.

I have not used cloth at all or resin for models it's a new field for me. I have read fibre glass resins can require a lot of work rubbing down to get a good finish.

As I have started " the old school tradition " I will see it through, so far so good.

Kind regards to you both

Mike.

Hi Ray,

I asked the question because I have been trying your method of wallpaper pasting the hull and then applying the above tissue with a brush laiden with paste. I am having to apply short strips along the hull, can't use one complete length without the tissue shredding.

I have read tissue is rated in GSM, there is no GSM for the above tissue. I have been able to locate 17gsm and 18gsm through my other half who has an interest in Create and Craft. When this arrives I will post my findings.

Kind regards

Mike

Hi,

Has anyone used this tissue on the hull. I bought this from The Range. Tried Cornwall boats for heavy weight tissue with out success. Can the community help?

Hi Paul,

Thank you for the link, I will contact the club.

Kind regards Mike.

Hi Paul,

Cascamite is ok works for me except when trying to glue stringers 1/8 X 1/16 around curves when I then use super glue. Pins have a tendency to split stringers.

I'll have a look at using a rule on plan for that photo which I will upload.

Kind regards, Mike.

I have not uploaded any photos of the MTB 49 but will do shortly.

Hi Paul,

Hull and wheel house and deck built from plan.

I have not bought any pre made parts. I enjoy the challenge of making as much as I can.

I should have said the beam not bow, sorry.

Ray, thanks for your reply.

Kind regards, Mike.

Hi

I have been having a go at making a model of the MTB 49.

Has anyone built this boat.

I have made the hull and made the wheel house, the problem I have is the wheel house on plan is longer than the actual size, also the bow is wider than actual.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards Michael.

Hi,

I made enquiries to them regarding the current situation and last night got an email which is exactly the same as the first issue some time back. Read the archive section for the time being.

Hi all,

Thank you for your help with the glue and window materials. I never thought of cd cases or even plastic tubing for the windows. I am learning something new with your help.

Very grateful to you

Michael.

Hi,

I am making window frames for the Vosper out of card and trying to glue the card to celluloid without success. The glue I am using is super glue, is there another way of making the windows.

Kind regards

Michael.

Hi all,

I got some light grey satin paint and tested it on some scrap pieces of wood. The paint is fine and the finish is good.

Thank you all again for your help.

Kind regards

Hi,

I should have said I applied the super glue to the batten but you may have gathered that already, but I did apply the glue around the batten to ensure the seal was made.

I haven't got around to fitting shafts and motors as yet. I have been making bits and pieces for the Vosper.

Will submit photos as I progress.

Kind regards

Michael.

We welcome well written contributions from Website members on almost any aspect of Model Boating with a particular emphasis on practical hints, tips, experience and builds.

In order to maintain a consistent standard and format, all suggestions should first be sent to me by Personal Message for approval in principle. Only a very limited amount of time is available for editing contributions into a suitable format for placing on the website so it is important that the material is well presented, lucid and free from obvious spelling errors. I think it goes without saying that contributions should be illustrated by appropriate photos. I shall be happy to give advice on this.

The Member Contribution area offers space for short informative mini articles which would not normally find a place in Model Boats magazine. It is an opportunity for Website Members to freely share their  expertise and experience but I am afraid that virtue is its own reward as there is no budget to offer more material recompense!

I look forward to receiving your suggestions.
