Thread: Graupner Optomist Yacht ?
25/05/2018 08:51:00

Hi all,

I have just been given a yacht hull which I think is of the Graupner 'Optimist' Yacht. Also in the bundle were the mast, booms sails, and very heavy keel weight. With a mind to getting it back to its former glory, dose any one out there have any building information/manuals on this kit?

I would be most grateful for any information,

Best regards and happy sailing,

Brian Barber.

Thread: dacron sails
12/01/2018 08:39:52

Hi Derek,

Thanks for that, opinion seems to be split between hot knife and scissors. I think it will be down to trial and error.

Happy modelling,

Hi all,

Has anyone advice on how to trim dacron sail material?

Do I need any special tools, or will a good pair of scissors do the job?

Any advice welcome.

Thread: What Boat Is This?
12/06/2017 15:32:31

Hi Bob

That's an interesting thought ! I'm still looking into this, but I'm beginning to think that it is the old DMI model.

Thanks for your input, I will follow it up anyway.

09/06/2017 16:24:43

Hello Paul,

Yes it looks very similar. It has also been suggested that it may be an old kit from DMI called 'Admiral'. They were later bought out by Billings.

Thanks for your input, I will be doing more research into it.

Dose any one have a manual for this model? I need to redo all the rigging and could use a diagram for the sheets.

Any help would be most welcome, thanks.

We welcome well written contributions from Website members on almost any aspect of Model Boating with a particular emphasis on practical hints, tips, experience and builds.

In order to maintain a consistent standard and format, all suggestions should first be sent to me by Personal Message for approval in principle. Only a very limited amount of time is available for editing contributions into a suitable format for placing on the website so it is important that the material is well presented, lucid and free from obvious spelling errors. I think it goes without saying that contributions should be illustrated by appropriate photos. I shall be happy to give advice on this.

The Member Contribution area offers space for short informative mini articles which would not normally find a place in Model Boats magazine. It is an opportunity for Website Members to freely share their  expertise and experience but I am afraid that virtue is its own reward as there is no budget to offer more material recompense!

I look forward to receiving your suggestions.
