Guys. How thick have you made the formers - bulkheads ? 3/16 or 1/4?

i want to collect balsa this weekend 🤗

Thank you Tim. Unfortunately i suffer from every modellers problem of having a go at everything 😬 all at the same time.

Winters coming and playing out doors will get to be limited so i will be able to crack on - providing the yachting bug does not take hold too strongly 🙄

Well, after a long while another thread on this forum has motivated me to get on with this job.

I suppose i will end up with two on the go 🤔😂🤗

I eventually laminated all the lead sheet and fitted it to the keel plate-board. A bit if rough sanding an now it shows all the hollows and cracks so a bit of body filler and then i can sand it down.

After receiving my set of plans i have copied them and picked up some picture mount glue to tack them to the balsa

My plan of attack is to cut all the parts out first. 😂

I managed to get side tracked yesterday have a go at rc yachting. Boy did i enjoy it. What great fun. Now the wife has to buy me a Dragon force for Christmas 🤗

After seeing a forum post for the Kirklees model boat club I had a browse at there website and followed the link to the sailing section 'Rofwac' after making contact I paid them a visit at lunchtime today and enjoyed a very warm welcome and some sailing 👍

I have never sailed a yacht before, pond yachts excluded and within 5 minutes of being there was given a radio set and some instruction. JIF was the model and I have to say it was a great experience.

My thanks to the chaps there are I look forwards to going again.

Hows the tiling going? Is it interfering with the play time ?

I strangely collected some 1/2” balsa from the servo shop yesterday🤔

if i could get a set of scaled up plans i might join you on the build 💥

Thats looking very neat. I could have done with an rc boat today the sea at criccieth was dead flat.

Canoeing around was great. Not too many jelly fish either so got a good swim in 🤗

happy boating

Hi. Yes going well until last weekend when my tender rolled off the steaming bays and dropped to the floor. I have been panel beating all week 😬.

Embarrassing to say the least.

22/08/2019 16:51:35

Hi. Yes it does look very good. All hand done too i presume?

I hope your studying with all that informative stuff you have taken 🤓

Thread: Balsa sealing.

Hello Stephen

My answer would have been sanding sealer but there are new ways to do it. Have a look at the Cossack build thread that Ray has running.

Sorry should have added 'onto ply' I do not use much balsa.

14/08/2019 17:37:14

Thanks for that my choice would be sanding sealer and plenty of coats.

Hi Ray, I have not seen that covering before. Does it shrink to the shape?

We welcome well written contributions from Website members on almost any aspect of Model Boating with a particular emphasis on practical hints, tips, experience and builds.

In order to maintain a consistent standard and format, all suggestions should first be sent to me by Personal Message for approval in principle. Only a very limited amount of time is available for editing contributions into a suitable format for placing on the website so it is important that the material is well presented, lucid and free from obvious spelling errors. I think it goes without saying that contributions should be illustrated by appropriate photos. I shall be happy to give advice on this.

The Member Contribution area offers space for short informative mini articles which would not normally find a place in Model Boats magazine. It is an opportunity for Website Members to freely share their  expertise and experience but I am afraid that virtue is its own reward as there is no budget to offer more material recompense!

I look forward to receiving your suggestions.
